Install a travel eSIM on iPhone
A practical iPhone setup checklist, with activation timing and travel-line settings to check.
1. Prepare on a reliable connection
Confirm compatibility and carrier unlock status. Read the seller’s installation and validity rules. Have the QR code, app or activation details ready and connect to reliable Wi-Fi where required.
2. Follow the supplied installation method
Use the provider’s app or go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM and follow the supported method. Labels vary with iOS and region. Never share an activation QR code publicly.
3. Label your lines
Give the new line a recognizable label such as Travel. When ready to use it, select it for cellular data. Review the default voice line separately and disable cellular data switching if you do not want fallback to your Canadian line.
4. Configure roaming for each line
The travel eSIM may require data roaming to be on; follow its instructions. Keep Canadian-line data roaming off if avoiding data roaming there. Keeping the Canadian line active can still permit billable calls or other usage.
5. Test and keep the profile
At the destination, check that the expected data line connects. If it does not, use the provider’s troubleshooting steps and support. Do not delete the eSIM as an initial fix: reinstalling may not be available.
